Our House System

One school, six house communities

At Cheltenham Bournside School, we focus on understanding every individual's strengths and challenges, so they can quickly and happily feel part of our school community. Key to this, at the heart of our school is our house system. When joining our school, every student (and member of staff) is placed with and belongs to one of six houses.

On their first day with us, students are presented with their house tie. From then on, they belong and contribute to its success.

Each house is led by a dedicated Head of House and Assistant Head of House, which nutures a sense of family and community. Your school house is your family and brings students of all ages together to use their skills, talents and perseverance to earn house points. Student regularly compete in house events and challenges, earning points for the house and celebrating its achievements, knowing that each individual plays a part in its success.

We have high expectations for student learning and behaviour. We want students to try their hardest in lessons, and through our house points system, we'll reward you for outstanding 'attitude to learning', as well as full attendance, joining in, supporting others and your achievements in and outside of school.

We have a vertical house system and tutor groups are made up of six students from each year group from year 7 to 11. This means:

  • Students in different year groups are able to build positive relationships with each other, helping to build an enhanced sense of community
  • Younger students are mentored by older students acting as positive role models
  • Opportunities are created to further improve home/school communication

In the Spring term each year, Year 10 students are invited to apply to be a House Prefect and to take on a leadership role within our school. Prefects play a valued role in ensuring that our school values of ambition, curiosity, pride, purpose, respect and support, are carried across to all areas of school life.
