Student Awards 2023

21 Dec
ANNUAL school AWARDS ceremony in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and progress

On Tuesday evening over 70 students and their families came together at the Parabola Arts Centre in Cheltenham to celebrate the Cheltenham Bournside School Awards

Senior and graduate students were recognised across all subject areas for outstanding academic achievement and progress, as well as their wider contribution to the life of school.

Nine students from Years 9 - 12 were also invited to the ceremony to receive the Headteacher Award 2023. The Headteacher's Award is a new award for this year and is awarded in recognition of consistently reaching the highest standards of academic excellence, a positive attitude to learning, contribution to the life of the school and high attendance. An engraved silver salver will stand proudly in main reception to highlight the honour.

Headteacher, Mr Jefferies, said; "This is the proudest moment of a Headteacher’s year: an evening in which the school celebrates the very best of what it means to be a Bournsider. The names we’ll hear are the names of our most successful students. The achievements honoured this evening represent talent, determination, resilience, skill, diligence, and hard work. Success is hard won, achieved through struggle and the support of those around you. As Theodore Roosevelt said, “nothing worth having comes easy,” and it’s precisely because it’s not easy that success is such a cause for celebration. It is, therefore, something of which our award winners should, like me, feel extremely proud."

Guest speaker, Lucy Beresford, Joint Managing Director of SLG Brands, the Cheltenham-based design-led international beauty brand company, delivered an inspiring and motivational address, recounting her career journey and offering valuable advice and encouragement to the students.

Guests were entertained during the evening by graduate student, Cal Herron playing the piano, and a stunning performance by graduate student, Daisy Williams. Thank you also to the Year 10 prefects who hosted a welcome drinks and reception.

Stuart Hutton, Vice-Chair of Governors, delivered the closing address, sharing the pride he feels for the school, giving thanks to everyone involved in the success of the students, and of course, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

Congratulations to all of our award winners and many thanks to our fantastic guest speakers and musicians.
