We're roaring to go! Lions at Large is Bournside's Charity of the Year
02 Oct
Students and staff at Cheltenham Bournside School are proud to support the Lions at Large campaign this year; working together to fundraise towards an amazing project - The Big Space Cancer Appeal - which will have a positive impact on so many individuals and families across Gloucestershire and beyond.
Three of our school core values are ambition, respect and support which align perfectly with the ambitious purpose of the Big Space Cancer Appeal and our incredible students are already busy coming up with some brilliant fundraising ideas. We are delighted to get our school community behind this important cause. Good luck to everybody involved.
- Rob Waters, Deputy Headteacher (Culture), Cheltenham Bournside School
A huge thank you to Arlene from the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity who joined us with Leon the Lion, painted by the incredible internationally renowned artist, PJ Crook at our recent open evening to help launch our partnership. We then went on to present our Charity of the Year to all students in assembly in recent weeks.
The Big Space Cancer Appeal is raising funds for a new cancer centre in Cheltenham that will offer local patients the very best environment for treatment, healing and recovery, creating space to care, talk, think, recover, rest and innovate.
In the Summer of 2025, Lions at Large – The Pride of Gloucestershire Trail will be ‘roaring’ onto the streets of Cheltenham and Gloucester! Over 30 large Lion sculptures will be designed and painted by local artists; celebrating Gloucestershire’s rich history, culture and diversity. They will be joined by the Cub Club – a pride of Lions created by schools and community groups, including us at Bournside. The Bournside Art Department cannot wait to get started!
Why Lions? Lions represent the courage needed to face cancer, as a patient and loved one. Lions work as a pride (family) to survive. They tenderly care for each other’s young, the elders and work together to find food.
Thank you in advance for supporting this year's charity with us. Together we can achieve more.
