Joining our Sixth Form
12 Jan
For parents and students looking to join an ambitious sixth form with excellent teaching, compassionate pastoral care, extensive grounds and a vast programme of extra-curricular activities, Cheltenham Bournside Sixth Form is ready to welcome you to our upcoming open evening on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
Choosing the right sixth form is an important step in preparing for future success. By choosing us, you can be confident you will be supported and challenged to excel, both personally and academically, within a strong school community environment.
Students here are treated as young adults. They are given greater responsibility for their learning, alongside a school structure and a dedicated team that prioritises individualised support. Our sixth form academic and pastoral teams operate side-by-side to monitor, guide and support the wellbeing of each student.
With more than 35 A Level and BTEC courses to choose from, and 6 new courses for 2022, we offer the widest range of A level and BTEC options available locally. We invest a significant amount of time in ensuring that each student is well suited to their subjects, and to enable this, we offer three clear pathways including A Levels, BTECs or a mixture of the two, designed to help you select subjects with a clear route to your university, further study or career goals.
Our A Level results are consistently above average and we are proud of our former students, who have gone on to prestigious universities, apprenticeships and successful careers.
Sixth form students enjoy their own space and benefits within the school, including private study areas, a large sixth form common room and a brand new sixth form café. The Pitstop café provides a vibrant social space for students to work and socialise outside of the classroom, much like the professional spaces students will find at university or in the workplace in the future.
Sixth Form students of course benefit from outstanding facilities across the whole school too. Our scale and space means that students benefit from specialist facilities across all A-Level and BTEC options. This includes our modern well-used library, our new state-of-the-art Alan Turing Maths Hub and our updated AstroTurf and a brand-new gym facility within our Sports Centre.
We are proud of our long-standing positive reputation for sport at Cheltenham Bournside School. We have a thriving Athlete Development Programme and offer a full calendar of sports fixtures where sixth form students both play for, and help to manage, the top teams in the school. Opportunities for mentoring and leadership can be found throughout the school.
Whether your passion lies in sport, art, drama, music or the academic side of life, beyond the classroom we offer a huge range of opportunities to have fun and develop personal leadership skills. You will be encouraged to take part in a diverse mix of enrichment opportunities alongside your studies, encompassing for example, Duke of Edinburgh, Young Enterprise, the Early Applicant Scheme, and community volunteering.
All of these experiences, alongside your studies, are designed to broaden your experience and to prepare you for life beyond the Sixth Form.
Students joining us in 2022 will be joining us in our 50th anniversary year on our Warden Hill Road site - a landmark we are very proud of.
We are a happy and successful community, and one where the academic and personal ability of every student is identified, nurtured and developed. Students who are new to the school need not worry as they will be fully supported to settle in and to make progress quickly. We look forward to meeting you.
The Cheltenham Bournside Sixth Form open evening takes place on Thursday, January 27, from 5.30pm – 8.00pm.
