Alex Chalk MP officially opens new Pitstop Sixth Form Café
20 Oct
We were delighted to welcome Alex Chalk MP this month to officially open The Pitstop, our new Sixth Form café and snack bar, following a tour of the school with headteacher, Mr Jefferies.
The newly opened café provides a vibrant social space for students to work and relax. Serving barista style coffee and hot drinks, hot and cold snack food, including bacon sandwiches, paninis, pizzas and salads, the café will be open throughout the day during school hours.
‘The Pitstop’ 50s diner themed branding was selected following a Year 12 competition to name the new space. Our Senior House Captains picked the winning entry, which reflects the need to pause and refuel for success. ‘The Pitstop’ name also reflects working together as a team.
Daily newspapers are available in the café, which offers a range of seating areas as well as a quiet break out room for small groups or individuals.
Kevin Warren, Head of Sixth Form, said “Our new café provides a fantastic social space for the exclusive use of our Sixth Form students, and I’m pleased to see it being so well utilised in its first few weeks. It provides a mature environment for students to rest, work and socialise outside of the classroom, much like the professional spaces that students will find at university or in the workplace in the future. Staff are welcome to use the café too, and it’s great to see everyone enjoying it together.”
Alex Chalk MP, said “It was a great pleasure to open Cheltenham Bournside School’s new Pitstop Sixth Form Café. It has been cleverly designed and laid out and provides an appropriate environment for older students to meet and interact. The students I met clearly really value this investment, and I expect the Pitstop Café to quickly become a Bournside institution.”
The new Sixth Form café is just one of a series of improvements that took place across the school this summer, which included upgrading the school’s popular Astroturf and the opening of a new gym and fitness suite.
