GCSE Results – Cheltenham Bournside School and Sixth Form Centre (Summer 2017)
Headteacher Designate, Gareth Burton, who assumes the post on 1st September, said: “I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to our year 11 students who have performed so well in this year’s GCSE examinations.”
As is well documented in the media, this is the first year group to sit the newly reformed GCSEs in English Language, English Literature and mathematics, which offer a significantly greater level of challenge than their predecessor qualifications and are graded 1-9 rather than A*-G, with 9 being the highest.
I am absolutely thrilled with the way in which our students, across the ability range, have performed in these new qualifications. 71% of students achieved a pass in English Language, 71% did so in English Literature, and 74% in mathematics. In addition to this, a significant number of our students achieved the highest grade possible, GCSE level 9, which is a grade reserved for the top 5% of students nationally.
As always, I would like to thank the parents/carers of our year 11 students for their support and our wonderful team of teaching and non-teaching staff, without whom these achievements would not be possible.
If you would like further information regarding securing a place at our sixth form for September 2017, please contact Lisa Cullen (firstname.lastname@example.org or 01242 229542) who will be able to respond to your query and if necessary, book an appointment with Mike Stratford (Head of Sixth Form) over the coming week.”
