PRESS RELEASE 20/03/2017
CHELTENHAM BOURNSIDE SCHOOL AND SIXTH FORM CENTRE
HEAD TEACHER TO RETIRE
Allan Foulds is to retire from teaching towards the end of this year and will leave Bournside after ten years as its head teacher.
Mr Foulds joined the school in January 2008 from Droitwich Spa High School, Worcestershire where he was previously head teacher. Prior to this he was head teacher at Christopher Whitehead High School in Worcester. His first post was as a teacher of chemistry at Bournside where he taught from September 1980 for just over two years. Last year he was President of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL).
In his time at the school it has been inspected three times. Inspectors have given a consistently good grading to leadership commenting on its strength most recently in November 2016.
There has been extensive investment in the school’s buildings in Mr Foulds’s time, with the addition of new classroom blocks, two dining centres and a learning centre. The school has remained popular and is set to expand to receive a 300 intake from September 2018.
Allan Foulds, head teacher said: “It has, and continues to be, a genuine privilege and pleasure to serve Bournside School community. I am lucky to work with amazing young people who have consistently surprised me, and on occasions themselves, with their extraordinary achievements. I continue to learn much from a highly dedicated staff team who have always shown themselves willing to go the extra mile in the interests of our young people. I also pay tribute to the work and support of the school’s governors. They work tirelessly in the interests of the whole school community. I hope to continue to contribute to education after leaving Bournside in particular continuing my support for and engagement with ASCL”.
Neil Spurrier, Chair of Governors said: “Thanks to Mr Foulds and the full staff team at the school we are now in an excellent position to be seeking a new head teacher to continue to take the school forward. We will advertise for this exciting opportunity soon after Easter and look forward to what we hope will be considerable interest. There is much that remains challenging in education and schools generally. Governors are clear that Bournside embraces change with enthusiasm and we will lead a recruitment and selection process with considerable optimism”.
