We are rightly proud of high levels of academic achievement. From the start we help students develop the skills necessary for learning in the 21st Century. Ensuring a combination of qualifications and a broader experience matters deeply to us. We believe guided choice motivates. This is why we strive to offer a wider range of Key Stage Four and Sixth Form courses to choose from than any other school or college locally. Most of our students choose to belong to our Sixth Form and we also welcome others from a larger number of schools than any sixth form in Gloucestershire.

Some uncertainty lies ahead for all of us in a rapidly changing world. To prepare for this we need to develop a wide range of attitudes, values, knowledge, attributes, and skills. Bournside’s broad and balanced curriculum offers a range of pathways, from vocational routes into employment and training, to joining Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. Our highly skilled, enthusiastic and committed teachers aim to teach in ways which recognise the differences between our students. Lessons have a range of styles and personalised learning always aims for students to make good or outstanding progress.

Our work related curriculum prepares students throughout years 7 to 11 for the challenges and opportunities of adult life. We organise activities to develop flexibility, resilience and adaptability. There is much to learn to prepare for the world of work. We teach knowledge about financial capability and we actively help our young people plan for possible career pathways. Students are able to make well-informed choices in Year 9 about GCSE courses and beyond this our young people are thoroughly guided into Sixth Form study. All this helps secure first choice university places and chosen routes into employment.

Engagement beyond classroom study is extensive, rich and varied. There is wide ranging opportunity to be involved in sport, music, drama, debating, charities, foreign exchange, young enterprise, business competitions, and a host of other activities. We encourage our students to get involved as soon as they begin with us because we want them to make the most of the broader life of our school. They welcome this and parents tell us they want a school which truly recognises the importance of an education which enhances academic achievement through memorable and enjoyable experiences.
