Here at Bournside we provided year 10 and 11 the opportunity to gain their level 1 and level 2 sports leadership award. Sports Leaders UK acts as an awarding organisation providing nationally recognised qualifications that equip people with the skills and motivation to create and run sporting activities.
Level 1 Sports Leadership Award
The level 1 Award in Sports Leadership provides the ideal starting point for learners aged 13 and over who wish to develop their leadership skills, whilst under the direct supervision of their teacher.
The syllabus is designed to develop generic skills that can be applied to a variety of sports and/or recreational situations as well as contributing to the personal development of the leader.
Guided learning hours: 33 hours (including one hour demonstration of leadership)
All leadership lessons are run during students core PE lessons, it is an optional course for students to take. As part of the level 1 leadership we host two large sporting festivals which allow the sports leaders to interact with primary school students, plan and lead fun activities which develop fundamental skills in sport.
Level 2 Sports Leadership Award
The level 2 award in sports leadership will give learners the chance to develop their organisation, motivation and communication skills, whilst also focusing on positive role models in sport, how to mentor others, and how to use leadership skills in a variety of settings.
Learners may have already gained their level 1 award in sports leadership or this may be their first step onto the volunteering pathway. There is no requirement that learners wishing to take level 2 award in sports leadership must have previously completed the level 1 award in sports leadership.
Guided learning hours: 39 hours (including 10 hours demonstration of leadership)
All leadership lessons are run during students core PE lessons, it is an optional course for students to take. As part of the level 2 leadership we host coaching afternoon and mini tournament for our surrounding primary schools.
